Abdullah Qureshi: An Interview

Th interviewer, Natasha Sohail, is an introvert who expresses herself by capturing nature at its best and is currently saving up money to buy a professional camera . She is currently interning at Ideas Evolved.

Abdullah Qureshi is a synonym of the word ‘friendly’ and he just so happens to have an incredibly mesmerizing voice too. Even with almost 49,000 views on his very first original song “Tere Liye” in just a matter of 12 days, he is just as down to earth as the next guy and still replies to each and every post on his fan page, whether it’s to say thank you or to help someone out with the guitar chords of his songs. (BTW he isn’t even 19 yet!!!)

IE: What kind of a person are you?

AQ: I believe myself to be a friendly, albeit reserved, and happy person. And I think being patriotic is also a big part of who I am.

IE: How old were you when you started singing?

AQ: I think I must have been five, or six.

IE: Have you always been inclined towards the music industry?

AQ: Yes!! Although I tried acting once… it turned out to be an EPIC FAIL!

IE: What has been your family’s role in your singing career so far?

AQ: My family has been very supportive, especially my father. They don’t actually listen to my music a lot but they always appreciate my work.

IE: Do you think that success at your age has made you arrogant? Be honest!

AQ: *Laughs* No no, not at all. I love all my fans, they may be crazy, but I’m very thankful for having such people following me.

IE: Do people recognize you when you go out? And how does that make you feel?

AQ: Pretty much, yes. It feels great, I get very over excited whenever I have an encounter with a fan *Huge grin*

IE: On a scale of one to ten, how famous do you think you are… ten being someone like Ali Zafar or Atif Aslam

AQ: *Laughs* Dude!! The WORLD knows Atif Aslam and Ali Zafar!  So if they are a ten, I think I’d be a one.

IE: What goes through your head before doing live performances? What’s your biggest fear at that time?
AQ: It was tough at first, but now I’m used to it so I’m quite comfortable on-stage.
No fears as such, but I hate the smoke machines, they make it very hard to breathe…

IE: Do you feel that YouTube provides you with adequate exposure?

AQ: Yes it does, it’s a great platform for all the new musicians, and I think that without YouTube the music industry wouldn’t be where it is now.

IE: Tell us about Walnut Studios!

AQ:  Walnut Studios has been the main reason of my success till now. They called me up after watching one of my YouTube videos offering me free production in their studios. Since my journey with Walnut Studios started, I’ve learnt a lot of new things which have helped me grow as a musician. I’d like to thank Hassan Omer and Muhammad Adnan Butt for all their support because they are a major part of my success!

IE: Do you prefer doing your own songs or covers?

AQ: Actually both, but now that my first single is out, I’m working on more originals than covers.

IE: What made you take part in the City FM 89 Air band Competition and the Levis Go Forth competition and how determined were you to win them?

AQ: Absolutely nothing! It was totally like that situation when you’re bored, sitting in front of your laptop and you see this competition and CLICK! I didn’t compete to win; I just like to participate in stuff like that.

IE: What’s the funniest experience you’ve had with a fan?

AQ: There was a pathan guy fan, don’t forget the GUY part, jee haan, who came to me after a performance and said “Bhai jan apna skype ID to de dain

IE: Tell us about “Tere Liye”, what you were thinking when you wrote it? And about the making of the adorable music video?

AQ: Although Tere Liye is not the first song I’ve written, but I decided to release it as my debut single because out of all the songs I wrote, it means the most to me. I don’t know what I was thinking while writing it, something had gone wrong and I sat down and started writing… Next thing I knew, I had a complete song in front of me. *Smiles*

The video was a lot of fun, because of the children in it! It was a really good, yet difficult experience working with all three of them… they were super confident!  Also, I’d like to thank Lolz Studios for making the video and doing such an amazing job.

IE: What is your reaction after reading the affectionate messages that your fans leave on your page?? (The ones regarding how perfect you are, how your “hotness kills them”, your “wonderboy” qualities, how much they are in love with you…etc.)

AQ: *Laughs* I love reading all the comments. Balkay some of them are really funny and interesting. The people who post them think I might be busy and I might not read them all but I want to tell them that I read each and every post on my fan page, jee haan main itna waila hoon, because I love my fans for supporting me and listening to my music.

IE: Tell us how social networking sites like Facebook and E-marketing forums like Ideas Evolved affect the way that you promote your work. And is there anything you want to say regarding websites like Ideas Evolved?

AQ: *Smiles* Affect the way I promote my work? Social Networking sites ARE the reason that I’m here today! Thanks to Facebook I have more than10,000 fans following me…*Big proud grin* And about websites like Ideas Evolved, I think they’re doing a wonderful job as the fans get to know more about the artist this way and the artist-fan relationship gets stronger.

IE: What can we expect from Abdullah Qureshi in the future?

AQ: I am definitely going to make singing a career! And since I got such a great response after “Tere Liye”, you can expect some more originals… And of course lots of more covers… I’m also aiming for Coke Studio 7 and I’m pretty sure I’ll get there, Insha’Allah!
