Intolerant Much?
In the aftermath of the tragic Toulouse shootings, one thing was on my mind: what if it had happened in Pakistan? I mean, how would we have reacted to, say, a Hindu killing Pakistani soldiers at an ATM machine and then speeding away? Or gunning down innocent 4-year-olds outside a madrasah, for no apparent reason?
And this is precisely what Muhammad Merah, a 23 year old Muslim did in France, killing 3 French soldiers and then 3 children and a Rabbi at a Jewish school before shooting at officers who stormed his apartment and jumping out of the window. But back to the question; how would we have acted if all this had been done in Pakistan by a Hindu or A Christian? Would our President have warned the nation against discriminating against Hindus or would Muslim mobs have burned down entire Hindu neighborhoods in revenge? I’m much more inclined to believe the latter, not only because there have been many instance of such violence against religious minorities in the past, but also because, I’m sad to say, Pakistanis are a bitter, revengeful nation, packed with hypocrisy and bigotry.
In Gojra for example, after a rumor spread that pages from the Quran had been desecrated, six Christians were burned alive and their homes looted in 2009. And we are supposed to be Muslims? The point I’m trying to make here is that no matter how much we criticize the “infidels”, the fact remains that the Europeans and the Americans are by far more tolerant then us.
I want my readers to appreciate this huge difference between Pakistan and France, where even after an act of such blatant violence; Muslims can still sleep easy in their beds. This tolerance is, I believe, what really sets them apart from us, for as long as hypocrisy thrives in Pakistan, how can we ever prosper? And to all the people who consider themselves staunch Muslims, my question to them is: Would Allah SWT favor a nation so filled with hatred as Pakistan? And as can be seen from the state of our country, the answer is a very clear no!

I really do think it is quite a contradicting article. You are asking the readers to be toleratant (refering to Pakistani readers of course) when you yourself are coming off as intolerant.
Lead off by example and practice what you preach. Yes, some of the extremists are intolerant and resort to violence and demonstrate savagery at every chance they get. But they do not account for the whole of the nation.
Not all of us are intolerant, I am confident most of the urban population can identify right from wrong and will not hold the hold nation, cast or race responsible for the actions of one.
Indeed, in the tribal jirgas and individuals do take such drastic actions but that does not represent the soceity’s point of view.
I do firmly believe that Pakistan is NOT a bitter revengeful nation filled with hypocrisy and bigotry and am quite led down by this article especially when it comes from a well educated and literate person.
And YES, Allah SWT would favour such a nation because it does not only consist of those people who are looking for a chance to hack at people’s necks but also has people who work hard and arduously and follow the pricinples of Islam.
Okay. That was too long…..
i feel like the article was fairly successful in the point it was trying to make. and mr. “waterloo warrior” keep in mind that the sialkot incident proves one thing , we are bitter and revengeful. if thats not proof enough then remember how Salman taseers murderer was praised through the streets of pakistan? when a nations majority support extremists, i think its not too wrong to call those supporters extremists themselves. oh and still if your in denial then here you go , the lahore highcourt has banned the sale of shezan company products on its vicinity.
thats just one perspective of our nation you are portraying here. extremism prevail everywhere, but the level of it may differ from place to place. ‘sides isn’t it better to sketch the positivity rather than pin-pointing the downsides that everyone knows already. good effort though
